Your 1st Year

As a student in high school you probably didn't have to do an incredible amount of time management. High school was a prep course for life. You had classes to manage, a social life, and maybe even a job. After high school there are a few more factors than that to consider.

Knowing what you want to achieve and practicing some good time management habits will help you get everything you want to do done. You need to follow a routine, you won't find managing your time a problem if you have built certain habits and routines into your life.

Start by buying yourself a day timer or other form of planner. Write things that don't change in it, like weekly piano lessons or a class that you take every Monday from 1-2pm. Next begin to build your school schedule if you're attending college. Make sure you build in plenty of time for study time, and a social life. If you take 14 hrs a semester on average that's about 4 classes. Some classes will be offered several times a week while others will only be given at one time. Start your schedule with those classes that you can only take at a given time and then choose which of the available times to take for your other courses.

When using your planner make sure to write in things like team practices, doctors' appointments, club meetings, and birthdays. If you have a test on Aug. 21st don't just write down Test Aug. 21st on the appropriate day. Write down Test Aug. 21st begin studying on Aug. 14th.  At the beginning of every month look at what's going on that month.
