Grid-in Rules
In an SAT math grid the top row of each grid is blank. This is where you write your answer, one number per cell.

There's an important catch you should be aware of with grid-in questions: What you write in the top row of the grid will not be scored.

Write Your Answers First
The computer that evaluates your test scans only the darkened ovals in the grid.

So why do we recommend that you write your answers first? Because doing so will help you keep the numbers in their proper places.

Rows of the Grid
The next row of the grid has a decimal point in the first cell, a slash "/" and a decimal point in the second and third cells, and a decimal point in the last cell.

If your answer is in decimals, you must darken the appropriate decimal oval. If your answer is a fraction, darken the appropriate slash.

Darken the Right Ovals
For example, 3/7 can be used to show the fraction three-sevenths.

This row of the answer grid is evaluated by the computer, so be careful to darken the correct oval for the decimal or slash in your answer.
