Up Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Renewal FAFSAs
|
A Renewal FAFSA is designed for students who have applied for
aid the previous year. If you file a Renewal FAFSA, many answers are based on
your prior year's application, which cuts down on the number of questions you
have to complete. Only the information that has changed since last year must be
updated. You can file a paper or an electronic Renewal FAFSA. The electronic
version, Renewal FAFSA on the Web, requires a Personal Identification Number
(PIN), formerly known as an EAC. To request a PIN or to access your PIN if you
have forgotten it, go to http://pin.ed.gov
The Department's processor analyzes FAFSA information and
calculates an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) for every student, according to
a formula set by Congress. For 2000-2001, the Department's processor will mail
Renewal FAFSAs to students who applied for federal student aid in 1999-2000 and
who meet certain conditions-for instance, their SSNs and addresses were valid,
they were not in default, etc. If your school requests a Renewal FAFSA for you,
the Department will not send it to you directly.
