Does race matter in
issues regarding life after high school? You bet it does! While most school's
whose applications are worth the cost of the paper they're written on won't
discriminate against a candidate because of race or ethnicity there are certain
issues and concerns that you may have, as a minority student.
Most schools
wants students who will succeed at their school, regardless of their race or
nationality. College will give you the chance to break out of the normal group
that your high school was made out of. The diversity of college is a
transitional place between the homogeneity of high school and the diversity of
the real world. The real world is extremely diverse incorporating people from
all walks of life and backgrounds.
There are many programs that specifically assist minorities. Talk to each
school that you are thinking of applying to and request any "minority
specific" scholarship, award programs, or other information. They will
often have advice and assistance to offer specifically to members of minorities.
