Seniors, as you begin
your final year of high school keep these tips in mind as your preparations for
college begin in earnest.
-
Keep in
touch with your high school counselor on a regular
basis.
-
Make sure
you are taking all high school classes required for graduation.
-
Make sure
you submit all your applications to colleges as early as possible.
-
Decide
whether or not you need to take the SAT and/or ACT again. If so sign up for
the earliest test available.
-
College
students must be computer literate. Knowing how to use email and word
processing is a must. Take a computer course, if needed.
-
Learn how
to do laundry. I know Mom always said she'd be there for you but I don't
think college was something she had in mind.
-
Choosing a
roommate can be difficult. Don't room with
someone you know. You will meet new friends more
quickly by rooming with someone you don't know. Get
your housing information as early as possible in order to get
the dorm or room you want.
-
Begin
putting together a "to go" box in September of the
senior year. As you or your parents are shopping at
different department and grocery stores, buy sale items for
the "to go" box.
-
Choose
your first semester college classes wisely/carefully. Do not overwhelm
yourself with college your first semester. You may want to take 14 hours
instead of 16.
