With
an estimated 10,000 new students a year choosing home schooling as their
education choice, homeschooling is definitely a force in education today. Parents choose to homeschool their
children for many reasons. Because of the flexible nature of homeschooling many
students graduate from high school early. It is not uncommon for a 16 year old
to be graduating.
As a result, many homeschoolers enter college at a very young age. Currently 200,000
home-schooled students are enrolled in colleges across the country, and 1
million more are expected to apply over the next decade. In response, many
colleges have begun changing their admission policies to make it easier for
homeschoolers to apply.
And college isn't the only option out there. There are many alternatives to
college that are open to homeschoolers. Apprenticeships, internships, and other
on-the-job training programs offer homeschoolers the individualized training
they have been used to. Go to the alternatives page
to find out more about non-college options that are available.
