The General Educational Development (GED)
tests provides a means for earning the equivalent of a high school
diploma without actually completing a formal high school education. Because of
this it is sometimes called the high school equivalency test.
Who takes the GED test?
Anyone who has not formally completed their high school education and
received their diploma but who wants to receive GED accreditation. This includes
students who dropped out, homeschoolers, and others who didn't receive a
traditional diploma.
How do I get a GED?
In order to receive your GED certificate, you must
pass five tests: literature and
arts, math, science, social studies, and writing skills. You may take these tests separately or all in one day.
That's up to you. Contact your local GED testing location for more information
about the GED and to sign up to take the test.
Why should I get a GED?
Receiving your GED makes you the equivalent to a high school graduate. It
also boosts your potential income. Many jobs require a high school diploma or
GED certificate to even apply. This gives them a level or standard of
achievement that all applicants must measure up to.
How do I prepare for the GED?
Sign up for a test preparation course. It is important that you don't just
get a book on the GED and memorize a bunch of tips on how to ace the test. You
need to develop some general knowledge that backs up your GED certificate.
