Common Application

The eight page Common Application comes from no specific college. It is a generic application that can be filled out, photocopied, and sent to any college around the country that participates in the Common Application program.

The Common Application saves a lot of time. Rather than filling out a different application for each college you apply to you can just fill out one and make a copy of it. It also makes your teacher's and other adults lives easier as they won't have to write different letters of recommendation for each application. If possible have the people writing your letters of recommendation save their letters onto a computer disk or send you a Word document so that you can easily pull up copies of their letter as you need it.

While many schools have moved away from individualized application forms to the common application some will have a "supplemental application" that requests additional information.  And sometimes you will want to just go ahead and include other information. If you have something special you feel a college should know about you that the Common Application didn't cover, tell them anyway.
