Millicent House

Millicent house, a fine Georgian mansion, was originally owned by the Keating family. The estate was purchased by Richard Griffith in 1782. He made his fortune while working for the East India Company in Bengal. He was a member of the Irish Parliament from 1783 to 1790, and a director of the newly-formed Grand Canal Company. Richard Griffith was high sheriff of Kildare in 1788, and a captain of the Clane Yeomantry at the start of the insurrection in Clane and Prosperous on the night of 23rd May 1798.
