entry for ThinkQuest 2000

"...Where do I take this pain of mine
I run, but it stays right my side

So tear me open, pour me out
There's things inside that scream and shout
And the pain still hates me
So hold me, until it sleeps

Just like the curse, just like the stray
You feed it once, and now it stays

So tear me open, but beware
There's things inside without a care
And the dirt still stains me
So wash me, until I'm clean..."

- Metallica, "Until It Sleeps"

We are now in a society where temptations thrive on problems. The issue of drug use has risen to alarming proportions such that every country around the world allocates a lot of time, manpower and money to curb the manufacture, transport, selling, buying and use of drugs. Drugs have been declared a threat to society and a social ill. Why? Because many crimes are drug-related. Yet many members of society continue to take drugs for reasons such as poverty. This leads us to ask the question "what pushes them to take drugs? Is it poverty or stress and pressures in the society?"

Our web site is concerned with the problem and temptation that drugs present to the world. It discusses the societal implications of drugs and drug abuse. The site will contain general information about drugs, its types, effects, and hazzards to the brain or body. Our site also has a poll and survey portion as interaction for the youth, the largest age group affected by drugs, in it you can answer and share your opinions on drugs and society.

The site will make site visitors aware of the currently spreading “habit” around them. For drug users and potential users among the youth, the site may be able to show that drugs are not the answer for coping with various stress generating factors such as poverty and parental problems.
