1200:
Manco Capac I founds Cuzco and starts the Incan Empire.

1525:
The Great Inca Huayna Capac dies of small pox and a succession dispute erupts between his two sons, Huascar and Atahuallpa.

1532:
Francisco Pizarro and his Spanish Conquistadors arrive in the Incan Empire.

November 15th, 1532:
Pizarro and the Conquistadors arrive in Cajamarca to meet with Atahuallpa.

November 16th, 1532:
Atahuallpa is captured by the Spanish - the ransom is a room full of gold.

1533:
Pizarro begins his march from Cajamarca to Cuzco. Cuzco is occupied. Atahuallpa, by now, is dead.

1533:
Manco Capac II is placed on the throne as puppet ruler. However, he has notions of dissent and is thrown in jail at the Saxsayhuaman fortress.

1536:
Manco II breaks out of jail and lead a rebellion. The holy city of Cuzco is set on fire. The rebels treat down the valley of Yucay and set up their capital at Vitcos. The province of Vilcabamba becomes a separatist rebel state.

1536-1544:
Manco II grows in strength in Vitcos. The rebel military is fortified and regular raids are being held on Spanish controlled areas.

1541:
The Almagrists in Cuzco draw first blood against the Pizarrists, by assassinating their leader, Francisco Pizarro. The seven accomplices in the murder flee to Vitcos and swear allegiance to Manco II.

1544:
The same seven Almagrists assassinated the Inca Manco II, as payment for their room and board of 3 years.

1545:
5-year-old Sayri Tupac ascends to the throne of the rebels.

1545-1555:
Tension between the rebels and the Spaniards die down.

1552:
Prince Philip of Spain writes a royal pardon for the Inca, forgiving him of committing any the crimes since the rebellion in 1536.

1555:
Envoys are sent to Vitcos to persuade Sayri Tupac to come live in Cuzco and accept Spanish rule.

1557:
Sayri Tupac relents and agrees to live in Cuzco.

1559:
Sayri Tupac dies abruptly of disease in his new residence. The Incans claim that their ruler was poisoned.

1560:
Titu Cusi becomes ruler of Vilcabamba. Attacks on Spanish controlled areas are renewed.

1566:
Titu Cusi and the Spanish begin peace talks again. The treaty of Acobamba of 1566 is signed.

July 9, 1567:
Titu Cusi swears allegiance to the King of Spain.

1570:
Titu Cusi dies of double pneumonia - Friar Diego Ortiz is accused of poisoning the Inca and is brutally tortured to death.

1571:
Tupac Amaru ascends to the throne.

June 1, 1572:
Viceroy Toledo declares war on Vilcabamba.

June 24, 1572:
Vilcabamba is successfully taken over by the Spanish. Tupac Amaru flees.

September 21, 1572:
Tupac Amaru is captured by the Spanish and marched into Cuzco.

1572:
Tupac Amaru and his immediate family are executed. The rule of the Incas ceases to exist.
