Brief Description:
Strontium does not occur as a free element in nature. When procured, it is a metal that is softer than calcium, possesses a silver luster, and oxidizes rapidly in air. A by-product of nuclear reactions, radioactive strontium is dangerous as it accumulates in the bones (as does calcium) and is extremely hard to eliminate.
