Brief Description:
The most well-known of the metals that can remain a liquid at or near room temperature, mercury (also known as quicksilver) is extremely rare in nature. It is a heavy, silver metal, and conducts heat poorly. It also alloys readily with other metals such as tin and gold. Mercury is extremely toxic, especially because of its emission of harmful vapor at room temperature.
