Beryllium resists oxidation at normal temperatures, but can cut glass when a thin layer of the oxide is present. Precious forms of the mineral beryl, [Be₃Al₂(SiO₃)₆], include Aquamarine and Emerald. Sources: Beryllium is extracted from ores or is isolated through the electolysis of molten BeCl₂.
