I'd first like to thank all of you for your visits to our web site, and we all appreciate the support and assistance you've given to us during this project.
Unfortunately, I have to announce that "The Net Equation" has failed to make ThinkQuest's list of semi-finalist qualifiers. To say that Greg, Kaijsa, and I are disappointed is a serious understatement. After the hundreds of hours of work that went into this project, the enormous amount of effort invested here, to get nothing in return has left us all literally stunned.
Our team was quite confident in our web site, which has a beautiful and functional layout, provides a massive amount of content, some of it previously unavailable on the Internet, includes technical features that contribute but do not distract from the main objective of the page, and represents an obvious and sincere effort on our part. Viewing some of the semi-finalist entries, I must say I'm disturbed at their quality; in my opinion, being as objective as possible, our page is superior in many, if not all, respects to some of the advancing entries. Our focus on content, rather than gimmicky and marginally-enriching technical features, was based on our decision to develop an entry that serves a larger purpose--hopefully, to educate and assist developing chemists--than simply winning a competition.
We are anxious to learn on what grounds our project was disqualified. ThinkQuest has promised to release the judges' comments in December, although our project was disqualified in late September; what purpose the delay serves is unknown. We will post this information when it becomes available, so that it may be discussed here.
I'd like to thank all of you again on behalf of The Net Equation team members, and although we are both disappointed and disillusioned with this program, we did enjoy working on and learning from our entry. Please use this resource to the utmost, stay in touch, and good luck to all of you in your continuing studies!
