Communication is an absolute must in any long distance
relationship. Whether it’s via phone, email or ICQ, keeping in touch
is an absolute must. If you’re using the phone, it’s a good idea
to compromise and take turns paying the phone bill. Unless your
significant other is super rich, the long distance bills can be a real
strain in the relationship.
Email is a godsend to most couples living thousands of miles apart.
A quick, "Hello, I love you" in the inbox can really
brighten someone’s day. In addition to that, there are a host of
internet phone software packages that don’t cost much and allow you
to make long distance calls without those maddening long distance
rates. A real letter, the kind using an envelope and stamps is
important too. Most people include a lock of hair, or a card with their
perfume sprayed on it to remind each other of their love. Some even
exchange underwear to be washed and returned. All by mail.
Don’t forget birthdays, anniversaries or other significant
events. Make sure that you’ve ordered a bouquet of roses and a
sincere, heartfelt card to be delivered on that special day. A
Hallmark alone won’t do. Once in a while, it’s nice to include a
recent photo as well.
