The Mayans occupied what at present is the region of Guatemala and Belize, splits it south of Mexico, and the whole of Honduras. The Mayas built their cities in places that were mountainous and that were easily defensible, and also built reservoirs to provide water for the towns. All the cities of the Mayans have the same characteristic as for the location , they built their cities in high places among a great deal of vegetation, their soil was fertile, and the majority was surrounded by cliffs or a lake as a strategy for protection in their wars with other towns. The Mayans considered the accessibility by land and sea when choosing a place, its cities were built in such a way that everyone had easy access to both land and sea trading routes.
