Ratios, a common term are on of the basics you learned in mathematics earlier in your education. Most commonly these ratios will be written in fractional form but they also can be written in statistical odds form if requested.
Example:
Write 5 to 7 in both fractional form and odds form
5 , 5 : 7

However if you were given a problem such as 20 to 16 you would be expected to reduce the fraction to its lowest form.
Example:
If 20 feet of lumber cost $55.00 what is the cost of one foot?
20 » 1
$55.00 $2.75
So one foot costs two dollars and seventy five cents.
