S.I. stands for Système International. This is the system used by the scientific community. S.I. units form the heart of all scientific calculations. In other words they are very important. Most of the scientific equations/formulas in Chemistry and Physics require S.I. units be used in order to obtain correct results. More importantly the S.I. units give scientists all over the world a common unit in order to make it easier for comparisons, communications between scientists, and also to avoid confusion amongst scientists from different countries.
