SEPARATING MIXTURES [Continuing...]

Distillation: this process is used to separate two liquids or solids with distinct

boiling and melting points that are far apart. The solution is heated

and then vapor from the liquid with the lower boiling point flows

through a tube known as the Leibig Condenser*, and is collected

in a beaker. The remaining substances (with higher boiling points)

remain in their original container. Thus, you have two separated

                     liquids.

                     * The Leibig Condenser is a tube that has cold water flowing

through it. It helps speed up condensation.
