BONDING

 

The third type of bond is known as a metallic bond.

This bond, as the name suggests, is most frequent in metals. The metal atoms/ions are in a sea of electrons. The electrons are free to move and are shared by all atoms.

 

The diagram below illustrates this bond:

 

 

The negative electrons move around the positive atoms, and thus bond them as a result of the electromagnetic force created.
