BONDING

 

Another type of bond is known as a covalent bond.

This happens when atoms share electrons in order to fill their outer most electron shell in order to become stable.

 

The diagram below illustrates this process:

 

 

 

 

This is an example of an H - H molecule. Hydrogen exists as H2, thus it must share it's electrons with other hydrogen atoms as above. The Hydrogen atoms above both have a full outer electron shell.
