Limits of Equations

Informal Definition:

  Lim     f(x) = L     "The limit as f(x) approaches C is L"

X » C

Example:

Lim   (3x -1)=L    The limit as x approaches two is five

X » 2

 Lim      (x+3)² - 9     x² +6x + 9 - 9     x +6x   =   x+6 = 6

X » 0          x                       x                   x

So the limit as X approaches 0 of the above equation is 6

Lim       -  The Limit as X approaches C from the left (numbers less than C)

X » C-

Lim       -  The Limit as X approaches C from the right (numbers greater than C)

X » C+
