Factoring

Factoring a very difficult and complex math topic to understand but is significant to solving future Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Calculus Problems.

Polynomial - a equation where the largest power is two

The easiest way to create a variable is to take two separate problems and multiply them together.

I always use the FOIL method

F- First numbers in parenthesis multiplied

O-outer numbers multiplied

I-Inner numbers multiplied

L-Last numbers in parenthesis multiplied

(x-3)(x-1) = x²-x-3x+4

now factoring involves the reverse process starting with an original problem and reducing it to two single equations.

Exp. 2x²+8x+8 = (2x + ___)(X + ____)  »  (2x+4)(X+2)

We know that both the numbers have to be positive. Because both of the eights in the equation are. Find Multiples of 8  =  (4,2)(8,1) the equation most likely will use those numbers
