Georgian Colonial became a very popular style in New England, and the Southern Colonies during the 1700's.  These ideas came to New England because of pattern books.  People had pattern books in their homes to show dignity and prestige.  The Georgian homes of America were less elaborate than the ones in Europe.  This style of housing was used by the prosperous and were very large and lavish.
