The Victorian Era was a fashion in house design.  Owners of Victorian style houses were generally very social people.  For this reason people often saw your home.  The Victorian style was to show wealth and sophistication.  These houses typically had steeply pitched roofs, pointed arch windows, elaborate verge board trim along the roof edges, high dormers, the use of lancet windows, board and batten siding (often vertical rather than horizontal)
