Out-of-body experiences
The phrase "out-of-body experiences" is the terminology used to describe experiences where one 'sneaks' out of his or her own body to another location. OBE's (short form for out-of-body experiences) are surprisingly common. Surveys have found that 1/4 of respondents have had at least one.
This state can be brought upon under situations such as illness, stress, trauma, fear or during altered states of consciousness made by hypnosis, meditation etc. It frequently occurs during the more natural altered states, those just before, after or during sleep.
Astral projection and travelling
Other aspects of OBE are astral travelling and projection. The person who is astral travelling is in control of his or her journey. The deliberate sneaking out of the body has been recorded since history began, but came to be known as astral projection after the publication of the book "Practical AStral Travel" by Frenchman Marcel Louis Forhan at the turn of the century.
Astral travelers claim to defy the law of Physics in a world where impossible speeds and distances can be achieved and solid objects are mere obstacles that can be easily overcome.
The astral body can take on any form and shape, for example, the splitting image of the person's physical body, a spirit, or any animal. Astral sight may take a while to develop adn many beginners report that they were unable to see anything while projecting for the first time. One astral phenomenon is the 360-sight (called omniscient sight or spherical vision), which enables one to see in all directions at once.
Most people usually take time to move in their astral bodies as it is like learning to walk all over again. There is no gravity in the astral plane and everythingis maneuvered by thought and using willpower. Anotehr typical astral aspect is the experience of intense and deep emotions. Telepathy and empathy are new kinds of perceptions on the astral plane.
