Navigational Bars

Navigational Bars

It is often easy to forget the notion of time when you are surfing the web as websites become more and more nested and an intuitive site structure is lost. To help make your browsing experience a more fulfilling one, we have employed three navigational bars (discussed in detail below).

Main Menu Bar

The main menu is designed for two types of users: 1. advanced users who are searching for very specific material, and 2) novice users who are new to the field of cell biology.

The main menu provides you with a horizontal navigational system. Each of the main sections is listed and color-coded. As you move your mouse over each menu option, the main subsections will show up and advanced users will be able to easily locate their desired destination page.

For novice users, the upper level of the main menu provides two easy-to-use tools. The Forward and Backward buttons will allow the user to systematically tour through in a sequential order. The Guided Tour button will take the user through a sequence of pages presented as major biological themes.

The features of the main menu bar is listed below:

Guided Tour Browse through the website in order of major biological themes with the assistance of a tour guide.
Main Menu Options Use this menu to go to any section directly.
Submenu Option Use this menu to go to any subsection within a major section.

Contextual Menu

The contextual menu is aimed to help the user gain more control over each webpage. We provide students and teachers who wish to print the information presented on the webpage with the option to generate a page containing only the content. Students may also wish to test their knowledge by choosing to take an interactive quiz.

For the most advanced or curious users. the Beyond button is provided to allow the user to view up-to-the-minute research results in cell biology. By clicking on the button, a page is generated that includes abstracts for the most recent research papers published in cell biology.

Button Function
Basic The main content page.
Beyond Get the PubMed search result for all of the latest ground-breaking research papers published in cell biology.
Quiz Take an interactive quiz to see how much you have learned.

The sidebar provides a top-down approach to web browsing. As the user clicks on each option in the menu, the content index of the subsection is displayed. Together with the main menu options, the sidebar provides the user with total control in navigating through Cellupedia contents.
