Between Tradition and Assimilation

    During the inter-war period, there were varying degrees of secularization and Polonization occuring within the Jews of Poland. The Orthodox were no more than lightly touched by either process. The Orthodox were an integral part of the Jewish community of Poland. According to Celia Heller, approximately one-third of the adult Jewish population was Orthodox in the period between the wars.
