Though the date of origin is still in dispute between historians, some believe kung fu surfaced during the Shing Dynasty (16th Century B.C.) Others place in the period of Contending States (475-221 B.C.) With the collapse of the Ch'ing dynasty and the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China, many changes have taken place in kung-fu. Using the art as an implement of war is incorrect. The aim of the PRC is to make kung-fu conductive to competition and available to large numbers of people.
