Economics is the reason destroying Gaia. Throughout the existence of the human race, which is contested as well over thousands of years, it has been only the last few hundred years that Gaia has endured such pain. The birth of the industrial age and hence modern economics can solely be blamed for humanity's pillage and plunder of Gaia.
