Conclusion

Indeed the Industrial Revolution was a revolution; determining how future societies would behave. Nationalism, capitalism, and industrialisation all played their part in the "emergence of the modern era". (Snooks, 1994: 23) Cipolla et. al. (1976: 7) declares that it was a world in which Man found himself able to handle great masses of energy to an extent inconceivable in the preceding bucolic age. But, handling the "great masses of energy" was inconsiderate of Gaia, as "there [18 century Britain] began to grow a society based on commerce, manufacturing and the professions, inspired by the ideals of expediency, profit…". (Cipolla et. al., 1976: 9) Following the beginning of humanity's mass destruction of Gaia, Gaia would endure centuries of torture.
