• 20% to 30% drop in hotel occupancy in the South.
• There was only a 5% to 6% increase in tourists from Singapore and Malaysia in early September. Earlier speculation that Thailand could benefit from the haze affecting its neighbours did not materialise.
• Phuket, a popular beach-holiday destination recorded a 20% drop in foreign tourists.

• Seafood prices rose during the worst period of September 25 to 29 because of the shortages as fewer fishermen worked.

Health

• 27,530 people from eight southern provinces, including Phuket and Haadyai, reported suffering from respiratory problems in September according to the Public Health Ministry.
