Map: The Capra Lake(to the right) and the Balea Lake and The Paltinu Chalet(to the left)
After all the rocky, snowy or just plain impossible paths (not really) we have finally arrived in The Capra (The Goat) glacial pool where, of course, the Capra Lake makes an outstanding scenery. It is the largest glacial lake on the south slope of the Fagaras massif, situated at 2230m above sea level.
While walking near the lake we arrive at The Capra Saddle from where we can see both The Capra Lake and The Balea Lake - the lake with the largest surface in the mountain - 4.6 hectares. Having a good look down we notice the Balea Chalet (the one on the bottom, here in reconstruction), and the Paltinu Chalet, which can provide a good meal and a room to rest.
Also from up here almost the whole Balea Valley can be observed with a part of the Transfagarasan road.
