A dense amount of water penetrates the outer and inner parts of the massif. Some
water springs are over 2200m high. The rivers have a permanent flow which is quite
large and keeps growing from May until July when the snows melt and the rains are heavier.
They belong to the hydrographic pool of The Arges and The Olt which are tributary to
the Danube. The Olt river gathers its waters from the northern slopes (Sinca, Berivoi,
Ucea), western and south-western slopes (Topolog) and the Arges from the southern ones
(The Valsan, The Raul Doamnei, The Dambovita).
Having parallel courses, with deep and narrow valleys, steep
slopes, the water density in the north exceeds 0.8 Km on square kilometer. In the south
part, until 1966, the Arges was forming at the conjuction between the Capra and
Buda valleys; in 1967 this conjuction point disappears under the water of the built-up
lake Vidraru.
