More About Me
I am Sergei , fourteen years old, and I live in Chelyabinsk,
Russia. I got Internet access four years ago, and since then I have
learned many things with its assistance. The possibility of learning
so much and finding information online fascinated me. Last
year I discovered Thinkquest,
an international contest in which students from all over the world compete
in creating educational websites. I decided to participate in it, and
formed my first international team. I have always enjoyed science, so I
chose a related topic, Physics
by Demonstrations. Although my team did not win an award, I gained
invaluable experience with teamwork and greatly extended my knowledge of web
technologies. I am especially appreciative of this experience because I am planning a career in the area of web technology.
This year I decided to participate in ThinkQuest again - of course,
in an international team. One of my favorite sciences is biology, especially
evolution, so I thought of creating a website on a biology-related
topic. An American student, Kate , suggested creating a website
about replicators, and I agreed. She amazed me with her intelligence,
capabilities, and knowledge of the subject, and I enjoyed working with
her very much. Through this collaboration I also gained a good understanding
of the American way of life. My other teammate Vitaly , who
lives in my city, also participated in last year's ThinkQuest contest,
and when I looked at his excellent work, I invited him to join our team.
I am also very grateful to our coaches Vladislav Farafontov and Nadejda
a for their great support of our work.
I was responsible mainly for technical aspects of this site, such as
HTML, design, graphics and programming. I also worked with Vitaly to
develop the Java applets that provide much of the interactivity on the site.
While creating the site, I worked hard to learn Flash and CGI; both of these
skills also enabled me to add additional interactive elements.
