When learning, ISTJs tend to collect facts before making a decision. They learn by mastering facts. ISTJs know a lot of facts and respects facts greatly. It is not easy for them to accept ideas that are different from their own views. If the importance of a certain idea is weel-explained or proved, an ISTJ might accept the idea, and to him/her, the idea becomes a fact. Once an ISTJ supports an idea, he/she usually would not change his/her mind.
The style of learning of an ISTJ is by following a plan. If an ISTJ isn’t give one, he/she might make one himself/herself. ISTJs are reserved people. They don’t feel comfortable when they are not following plans and structures. Sometimes, they tend to get obsessed to structure that they do everything “by the book” and refuse to be flexible. ISTJs achieve through endurance and hark work, rather than inspiration. ISTJs learn in a systematical way.
ISTJs manage their time wisely. They study best when alone in a quiet environment, and by studying one subject at a time. ISTJs may be avid readers. They usually write drafts using a format that has been proved to work in previous experiences.
ISTJs like neat rooms and hard-working, organized roommates, like themselves. They feel that all work must be done before play. In their leisure time, ISTJs usually enjoy hands-on hobbies which are done alone.
At college, ISTJs may be too concerned about details. ISTJs need to learn to leave out details and focus on the main themes or topics when starting to plan a project. Their high school studying techniques might not work in college. Also, overworking makes them miss out the fun. To solve these problems, they should outline main points when studying, instead of memorizing. The majors an ISTJ would usually choose are accounting, finance, business, law civil engineering, production, construction and health administration.
To conclude, ISTJs are hard workers and diligent students, but they need to relax a bit and leave time for themselves to have fun.
