Antartica
By the 1800's, the south pole, or Antartica was the only continent that remained unexplored. The Antartica peninsula was sighted on two separate occasions by Edward Bransfield of England and Nate Palmer of the US in 1820. In 1840, Lieutenant Charles Wilkes speared an exploration of Antartica's coast. In 1911, a group of explorers led by Norwegian, Roald Amundsen reached the south pole. This group was competing with another set of south pole explorers led by Robert Falconn Scott of the British Navy. (see voyage to the South)
