North America
North America was explored by the English and French during the 1600's. The French explorer, Samuel de Champlain was able to reach present day Montreal in 1603. Five years later, he founded Quebec as a fur trading port. English explorer, Henry Hudson in 1610 sailed through a huge bay, now named after him - the Hudson Bay. Explorers who were successful in crossing the continent in the 1700's, include French Canadian fur trader Pierre Gaultier de Varennes who went as far as Saskatchewan, English explorer Samuel Hearne, Sir Alexander Mackenzie, and Meriwether Lewis and William Clark who travelled upto present day St. Louis.
