[The Main Kitchen] Chopsticks

(English alternative: Tongs; Mandarin translation: kuai zhi)

Chopsticks were believed to be originating in China, are the main devices Chinese use for eating and cooking. They are usually made of bamboo or other wood and are slim and long. Apart from using it for eating, it is an efficient tool for stirring, whisking, straining and they substitute tongs and re-arrangers.

Buying Chopsticks
They are often made of utilitarian bamboo or other wood. There are also plastic and ivory chopsticks if you prefer fancier chopsticks for setting the table. However, food can easily slide off these materials! Wooden chopsticks can decrease the tendency of sliding food, but the bad ones can have splinters of wood detaching all the time.

Therefore, we should remember to grind the wooden ones pair by pair to remove the splinters before using them. Apart from being used as utensils, chopsticks (those made of lacquered wood) can act as ornaments at home!
