  • Sweet-and-Sour Pork (Kulou Rou)

  • As the name suggests, the sweet-and-sour pork has that strange mixture of flavours in it. To make this dish, you have to marinate the pork for one hour first. Then you have to deep fry the pork, and keep stirring it in hot oil. When the pork turns crisp, it is taken out. After that, you stir fry some peppers and pineapples and add the sauce. Finally, you add the pork. When the pork has blended with the sauce, the dish is ready for serving.


  • Cantonese Roast Pork (Char Sieu)

  • This special kind of roast pork is red in colour on the outside. The outside is a bit hard, but don't worry, the inside is just as soft as normal pork should be. The pork is usually marinated for a whole night before you start cooking it. When it is ready for cooking, the pork is brushed all over and covered in Chinese maltose, or honey mixed in hot water. Then it is put into an oven for roasting. After roasting for 20 minutes, the heat is turned up, and you have to pour melted fat over the pork. Roast for another 10 minutes and the roast pork will be ready. Of course, you must remember to slice to pork before serving.
