[South] Special Ingredients

The staple food of southern China is rice. Why?

The climate is hot and wet, which is extremely suitable for growing rice and many other crops. Also, rice is easy to grow, and very nutritious. It doesn't need much processing either.

The people of southern China mainly eat rice, vegetables and fish for their meals. However, other food is also eaten, though not as often:
  • shrimps

  • oysters

  • squids and other seafood

  • pork

  • eggs

  • poultry etc.
