Westerners were and are still called as "barbarian ghost fellow", in Chinese, "fan gwei lou". In the past, it was because of the alien feeling Chinese had towards them; however, it has become a harmless saying now. But the word "fan" still sticks to the food which were originated from the West, for example tomato is called "fan qie". |
