Mid-Autumn Festival


The Chinese celebrate the mid-autumn festival at night. That night, the whole family sits together and admire the full moon. They eat
starfruits
mooncakes
pomelo

Children like to light candles and run around with pretty paper lanterns.

  • Mooncakes

    • These traditional cakes have a nice, shiny, golden brown coat. There are a few kinds of stuffing:
    red bean puree
    lotus seed puree
    salted egg yolk etc.

    Usually there are words or pictures on top of the mooncake.

    In recent years, there has been a new kind of mooncake. This new kind has a frosty, white coat, and is said to have less oil and fat than the traditional ones.

  • Did you know?

    • In the Ming dynasty, the Chinese people were planning a rebellion. They were afraid that they would be found out and punished. In order to pass messages safely, the people hid small messages inside the mooncakes!
