| The Phyllisia, 452 ton Cape Town trawler, went aground 100 m just off the rugged coast of the Cape Point Nature Reserve at about midnight on 3 May 1968.
She struck the jagged rocks. Eleven of her crew reached the shore in life rafts, but 14 still remained on the trawler. Two South African Airforce helicopters lifted the remaining crew from the craft.
The Phyllisia was ripped open in 4 places on her steel hull. |

The heavy seas pounded the craft, but she showed no sign of breaking up.
Marine salvage engineers and insurance assessors tried to visit the wreck, but found it impossible to carry out a full investigation.
It is said, "The only beneficiaries of her and her cargo were sea birds who waited on shore for the 30 tons of rotting fish!"
