Developement: After the eggs are laid it is 6 months before they hatch. The young need about a year before they are ready to change into imago.
Habitat: You will find this species in trees and bushy vegetation.
Special features: Heteropteryx dilatata is one of the heaviest insects in the world. The fully grown females can be 65 - 70g. this type also lives for a long time after the last sheding of the skin.
Keeping and Breeding: The terrarium should be about 60cm high.You should also fill the bottom with 6cm of earth, as the females lays her eggs up to 4cm in the ground. Room temperatures should be fine for keeping these interesting insects. I spray about 3 times a week. The air should always be relatively damp.
