The young insects hatch 4 to 6 months after the eggs were laid. They shed their skin for the last time after a further 5 to 6 months. The females then live for up to 2 years.

This is one of the smallest ghost insects that there is. An unusual feature in the females is that the lower body below the last pair of legs is blown up like a balloon, but towards the end is thinner. The males can be either red or green.
