Developement: The young hatch about 3 months after the eggs were laid. The larvae take some 6 months until they shed their skin for the last time.
Habitat: These very colourful stick insects are found in the undergrowth of mountain forests.
Special features: A special feature of this species is its extaordinairy warning colours, which signal to its enemies that it is unpleasant. O peruanas has a foul smelling secretion, which is sprayed from the side of its body, not directly in front or behind it.
Keeping and Breeding: You can keep the fern insects in a terrarium with the measurements 30 x 40 x 60cm.You should spray theterrarium, especially the ground, well everyday. Leave the eggs lying on the ground as the larvae will hatch there better than if you move them.
