Step 1

Joining the rear wall and floor pieces

You can see here all the timber you will need to build the terranium:

    1. Rear wall
    2. Floor
    3. Side walls
    4. Front ledge

First take the rear wall piece. Along one of the shorter sides, rule a straight line 6.5mm from the edge. Mark points at intervals along this line to show where the screws will go. So that it is easier to drill the holes, it is a good idea to make indentations on these points using a reamer.
Your piece of wood should now look like this:
Now drill the holes using a 3mm drill.
If you have used flathead screws, you must now sink the holes from the same side as you insert the screws from. This is so that the screws don't stick out.
Next you have to smear a generous amount of glue down the edge of the wide side. (This is where the wood was cut, so when the terranium is finished you won't be able to see it).
After you have applied the glue, you have to hlod the two pieces of timber together like in the picture. You should get someone to help you with this, so that the everthing is at right angles. Finally, while the other person is still holding the pieces together, screw the screws into the holes you have already drilled.
  1. Rear wall
  2. Flathead screw
  3. Floor piece
The whole thing now looks like the two pictures on the left.
