Q- Are you really a doctor?
A -"Yes, I am a 1989 graduate
of SUNY Old Westbury with a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Biology. I graduated in 1992 from New York Chiropractic
College and hold a Doctorate in Chiropractic. I currently
work in a multi-doctor group in Queens, New York,
and I also maintain a private practice located in
my home in Merrick, located in beautiful Long Island,
New York. I use magic in my office as a relaxation
device in my dealings with both pediatric and adult
patients."
Q- How did you learn magic?
A- "I went to M.U. , Magic University
.... hahaha ... no really, I've been studying
the art and psychology of magic for most of my life.
At age 6, my grandfather, Irving Gershberg, placed
a penny on the back of my hand. He covered that penny
with a little red block. When he lifted that block,
the penny had turned into a dime; which I got to keep.
My grandfather then gave me my first magic trick,
Adam's Magical Block. He would then take me into Manhattan
once a month to Flosso's Magic Shop on 34th Street
and buy me another trick. I still have that original
trick, my very first one, and I still have that sense
of wonder my grandfather instilled in me."
Q- Where might we have seen
you?
A- "Well, not to brag, but
.... I've been performing professionally for
over 23 years. I've performed numerous times on local
television, as house magician in 3 major restaurants,
at corporate trades shows, on a corporate airplane,
at Manhattan's famous Columbus Day parade, at weddings,
bar- or bat-mitzvahs, sweet 16's, communions, confirmations
and, of course, at more children's birthday parties
than I can remember.
I have taught magic courses in
Adult Education magic and after-school magic programs
in the Bellmore-Merrick School District, the Shelter-Rock
School District, Hofstra University, and Camp French
Woods for the Performing Arts. Additionally, I give
private lessons to both children and adults. As a
teacher, I stress the importance of understanding
the principles and psychology of Magic.
I have had numerous articles published
in the different magic magazines and club newsletters
and I am a regular columnist in Magic 411, an online
magic periodical. I am also a partner in M & M
Magic Reviews: The Consumer Reports of Magic. My partner,
Mike Maione, and I have become consumer advocates
in the field of magic.
I've worked professionally for
The Drifters rock and roll group integrating magic
into one of their stage productions.
I'm also a magical consultant.
I am hired by companies who want to advertise their
product with magic. I integrate whatever it is they're
selling into a magic trick. I also am hired by other
magicians to help critique, routine or redesign their
shows.
I volunteer my time for charitable
events, working for such charities as: Schneider's
Children's Hospital, The VFW, The American Legion,
The Masons, The Shriners, and The Make A Wish Foundation.
Recently, I performed on Broadway
at the "New Victory Theater" located on 42nd St. and
Broadway, in the heart of New York City."
Q- Do you belong to any
magic organizations?
A -"I am a member in good standing
of The International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM),
The Society of American Magicians (SAM) and an overseas
associate Member of England's prestigious Magic Circle.
I'm the current President, 1999,
and the past President, 1996, of the IBM Ring # 317,
Ring of Illusions.
I am the Corresponding Secretary
of the SAM Assembly #77, The Long Island Mystics.
I'm a member of the Northrop-Grumman Magic Club. I'm
the co-leader of the Long Island SYM (Society for
Young Magicians) group, where I teach the art of magic
to children and teens.
I'm a member of the Merlin's Magic
Group. And, I'm a member of "The Sometimes Friday,
Irregular Magic Club, that meets occasionally at Mike's
House when his wife is away"."
Q- Do you perform
alone?
A- "Interesting question. Usually,
I am on stage alone, or with my beautiful assistant,
or my pet doves, Harry and Bess. I travel with my
stage manager, Mr. Handy. He handles a thousand and
one details and I can walk on stage with confidence
knowing everything is set to my standards. But do
I perform alone? No, I perform with every other magician
I have ever seen or read about or worked with, I perform
with all of them, on stage, guiding my performance,
shaping me."
Q- I've heard a rumor that
you never sleep. Is this true?
A- "Sleep is a waste of time.
I meditate daily and therefore am sharper of mind
than most and require only two to three hours of sleep
a night."
Q- Wow, you sound totally
perfect in every way, is that possible?
A -"Sure is! No, seriously, I'm
far from perfect, but I AM better than most"
Q- Does magic really exist?
A- "Yes, most definitely. Magic
exists in the blooming of a flower, in the giggle
of a child, in the beauty of a rainbow, in love's
first kiss. Magic exists all around us, you just have
to be able to SEE the magic."
